wedding dress and bra shopping.. and hanging out with friends
me and mr. hero waiting for the train o_O
i no longer live in new york city but i try to visit at least once a year. we happen to be planning our 2025 brooklyn wedding, so this trip was jampacked with dress, venue, and bra shopping. and we got everything we needed to done while still managing to make time for friends and family @_@ it was a lot!
i won't be posting any wedding dress pictures right now because mr. hero proofreads my blog.. you'll have to wait until 2026 o_O i ended up finding FOUR dresses for various events over the next 3 years..and it cost a FRACTION of my dress budget because i bought "as-is" samples and vintage directly from a designer's private showroom in the flatiron district. my next project is getting them cleaned up, repaired, and tailored. i'm really excited to show the dresses off almost as excited as i am to be his unusual artist wife..
my main wedding dress is almost 100 years old (with some custom modern elements that necessitates several more trips to new york) so it was necessary that i find suffiently vintage-looking undergarments. i spent an entire day running around manhattan trying on bras, bustiers, and corsets— it was really nice to meet so many boob experts that could measure me by sight rather than the paper tape measure à la victoria's secret (>_> i hate victoria's secret.. they don't even carry my bra size)
if you're boobed, unhappy with your current bra situation, and in the city, please check out bra tenders near hell's kitchen and town shop in the upper west side bra tenders serves broadway performers so i had confidence in the integrity of the bustier and corset i bought from them.. and i picked up a new "everyday bra" for my rotation at town shop.
i also got to hang out with some friends i censored their faces because i wasn't sure..
i finally got to see my dazegirl in the wild! ^__^
i caught dazegxd b2b umru in times square.. go nephew go..
b drive let me vend their event at market hotel.. i got to see so many anne heads..
i also wanted to share a few anne hero approved nyc spots
i always end up spending an inordinate amount of time over here. there are jazz clubs (blue note, nublu) and independent theaters (IFC, angelika, film forum) in this area, so check ahead of time to see what's going on if you're planning an nyc trip! most of these spots are walking distance, if not literally doors down from each other.
my number one art supply spot (pearl paint), childhood sanrio shop, my mother's rave & streetwear store (Yellow Rat Bastard), favorite boba tea shops and bakeries have been eroded by rent prices over the years. i implore you to explore chinatown and support the locals as much as you can. there is much deliciousness to be had
unfortunately, williamsburg has phenomenal consignment shops. i never have the time or energy to pick through L train vintage when i'm traveling, so i feel like my time is better spent here. the curation at these boutiques make them worth visiting: it gets the imagination greased for ebay hunting.. i won't list ALL of the shops here, that would be silly. there are a lot.
i would love to hear your NYC recommendations too!
i hope you enjoyed this blog post! if you want to meet up with us in NYC (or the bay area, chicago, pnw, etc.), keep an eye out for jungle shows in my discord server.. i'll be back in NYC in november or december after my japan trip ^__^
